I need to find a way to ZA WORLDO and stop time to catch up on sleep and work. I've basically had 20-22 hour work days for the past two weeks and I've started to majorly burn out. At least I think the stress is good-ish for me. It pushes me to be more productive with my time since there's so little of it. It's not exactly working too well, but eventually I'll get things done.

So it was job fair week.. and I was running around like crazy to talk with all the different companies. The one that gave me the best impression is Microsoft... who is headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Seattle DOES look very cool but......... Washington? o.o I love California, and I love the Bay Area. If it's a super duper awesome deal, I'll probably go up to Microsoft for a year or so and see how it works out. I really miss all my friends in NorCal though.

My life is quite upside down right now. I'm being swamped by work and obligations and generally swept away from anything concrete or solid. I haven't really been on AIM.. I don't really read my emails. I'm struggling to work through everything day by day without any real direction on what's going on.

I guess I've been on haitus from the internet too. This is my first time checking LJ this month.

The phrase "sailing with no rudder" is very cliche, but it's a very accurate description of what's going on in my life right now.

I broke my camera. I was picking it up off a seat, and the strap got caught on the arm rest and the whole thing hit the ground. The lens filter for my $700 lens is shattered and bent, so I can't get it off to see if any damage happened to the actual lens. The hotshoe guides are bent too, so I can fit my flash into it anymore.

*crying over very expensive spilt milk* :(

Bitter and Burnt Out

One of the things about my personality that I pride myself over is my carefreeness. I'm eternally optimistic and believe life is an experience, good and the bad included. I don't believe naysayers until I've tried it, and I fancy myself thinking of impossible or improbable.. yet still grounded with an ounce of realistic ideas. I like to keep my mind as open as possible and try not to limit myself to jumping to conclusions too quickly. My greatest fear is having that naiveness and good naturedness erode away over time into bitterness and cynicism throughout growing up in life. It happens eventually, but I want to fight it as long as possible and stay a kid.

Unfortunately, that's exactly how I've been feeling as of late. Infact, this was pointed out to me at my final performance review at NetApp. My manager commented that I lack enthusiasm at work and didn't exhibit any initiative for my project. I'll admit that I hit a major slump in the middle of summer where I started to really zone out figuring out my project, but I wasn't aware that I changed that much. This is quite disheartening since this feels like a 180 in my personality. I would like to blame my project for not engaging me in a fun and exciting way, but I won't have such liberties of picking and choosing all my projects in the future.

I need to go reclaim my optimism and get a fresh outlook on life. I feel like I've fallen into a ditch and can only trudge around in circles right now.

9 was stylistically awesome. Storyline and pacing.. a little myeh. I also feel like the movie's cheating because it has such an interesting style and intrigue about the story that if the movie was horrible, I still would've liked it. In the end, I really liked the movie, but there wasn't too many notable things about it.

I think I would've liked it better as a tv series or a video game. In that format, they would have more time to explore the environment and the characters.

Memories of Old Friends

One of the greatest things about going to Sac-anime was hanging out with old friends that I haven't seen in a while. It dawned on Senritsu and I that we have known each other for five years. It's been so long that we started forgetting details about our stories together. Looking back, I have a lot of memories with friends that seem kinda hazy and just out of grasp. I kinda remember the first time I met Nessa. I don't remember at all how I first met BART-Boy. Sometimes it feels like certain people has always been there. Thankfully, I usually take pictures of people I meet when I first meet them, so I can always remember that point. I have an ooold photo of CJ eating a gloomy bear. My first photo of Amy was just because she had an interesting cosplay on. I took a picture of Senritsu because we were trying to return a plate, and she held it up to display it. I hope to continue this trend throughout my life so I can always look back at the beginning.

The best part about old friends.. even though the passage of time will make us forget about the past, friends are always there to build new memories together in the present. I'll always remember the epic game of Munchkin with Kasou and Nessa and crew at Sac. Hanyaan had a set of portable speakers and was blaring trolling music from it. Aurora finally moved out sleeping in hotel closets and settled for a uncomfortable lumpy foam bed instead. That's why I like cons.. it's always fun times no matter what's happening.

AND! Let's not forget making new friends. There's the TWEWY cosplayers and overly affectionate couple from Aurora's room. I remet (and kinda reintroduced myself to) some people from Nessa's cosplay group. I got to do a photoshoot with a random stranger. I also chatted with this hella cute artist girl at the Yaoi-con booth, but I never got her name or any info except for a picture. If anybody knows who she is, let me know XD

I should post all those ancient pictures of my current friends and plague them with old memories :3

I did the unthinkable.. I'm transferring all my email from Yahoo! Mail to Gmail. I really really liked my Yahoo! Mail account, and I resisted switching over to Gmail for a really really long time even though threading is awesome. A number of factors made me switch over though.. more and more people were using Google Groups. People started inviting me to events through the Google Calendar. There's also Google Docs and sharing was a convoluted mess trying to get working. The final nail in the coffin is me using Google Voice. I imported all of my cell phone numbers, and it just became massively more convenient to link people's numbers with their emails.

It didn't help that Google has an easy import utility from Yahoo! mail accounts either. My only excuse for not switching was that I would lose all of my old emails. Now, my old emails are sitting happily in my Gmail... all 8000 of them.

I learn a couple things about runway photography. Namely, I need to figure out my flash settings better because it's required in harsh sunlight. I also found out that my love of taking portrait shots has doomed me for fashion photography. I tend to like to take most of my pictures from the waist up. Anyways, here's the pictures.

Fulfillment of a Dream

The past couple of weekends have really been living the dream for me. Last weekend, I hung out with and did a photoshoot for Hakuei from Penicillin. He's a model for Black Peace Now and was in SF to host a pre-release event. I made some new friends over at Cure USA and generally had a good time.

Today, I went up to SF again for the grand opening of the New People building. I got tons of great shots of the opening ceremony, took loads of pictures of the fashion show, met some of the models from the show, got to see the new stores, and hung out with the Cure USA people some more. It was a really busy day. I haven't felt this enthusiastic about a photography assignment since doing a modeling shoot for Alina last year. I feel like I'm really going places now. I look forward to seeing where I'll end up next.

This is something I want to do throughout my life. I really liked dressing up (in this weird urban utility style I have now o.O), trekking through a city, networking with tons of people and bumping into a bunch of people I know, and taking a ton of photos. In this day alone, I bumped into j9isawesome, xel_ko, deepsetthinker, ama_ningyo, tidus, jub1lee, Cindy, Daniella + Tamar + Annaliese + Nick + Nur in a giant group. It was so great seeing everybody again.

I owe it all to Bob-chan :] Thank you so much for all the opportunities I've had recently. I feel like I finally have enough experience under my belt to consider myself a good photographer rather than just some guy dicking around with a camera.

More Diversity and More Perversity in the Future!
The Sci-Fi Channel (I cannot bring myself to type the phonetic/stupitastic new version of their name) has recoiled in craven fear and trembling when lectured by homosex activists, who gave the SF channel an "F" rating on their political correctness. Alas, the thoughtcrime! Not enough perverts on TV! The children have to be indoctrinated!

The head of Sci-Fi channel has contritely promised to include more homosex in future shows, and to do it nonchalantly, just as if this abomination is normal and natural and worthy of no comment. The shows will not actually come out and say sexual perversion has no bad side effects. They won't actually lie and tell you homosex won't destroy your life. But they will imply the lie. They will play along. It's only polite! It's so tolerant!

I am hoping, of course, that future shows will also portray sadomasochism and bondage in a positive light -- we are all looking forward to FLASH GORDON'S TRIP TO GOR, I hope. Love affairs with corpses, small children, and farm animals will also be on display in a natural nonchalant fashion in the new raft of progressive shows, titles such as I DREAM OF STINKY, PEDERASTY JUNCTION, and OLD MACDONALD HAD A SHEEP -- but no Mormons, whose moral standing we all abhor. The only good thing about Mormons, as we all know, is their polygamy. That we can approve of. Anything that offends the Patriarchy, we like. Evil is our good.

On a less sarcastic but still supercilious note: I'd like someone, anyone, to explain to me how my culture reached a position where a public entertainment company can be criticized for failing to contribute to the moral decay of the land, and that the criticism would be taken seriously, and the company would cringe and promise to do better.

Someone explain to me by what series of events persons with serious sexual-psychological malfunctions would somehow be awarded the status of moral arbiters, something like priests and confessors and sages -- except that the passkey to being a guardian of public conscience in our age is the absence of moral value, not the presence.

Come, my liberal leftist comrades! You openly boast of your superior intellectual power and more profound moral sobriety than we mere working Joes of flyover country (including working Joes like me with a doctorate in law who works in DC). You have anointed yourselves our superiors: that means you are smart enough to explain it. By what logic is the sole and single standard of virtue in your world view an absolute devotion to vice? By what logic is the sole and single sin the sin of having standards of virtue, what you call being intolerant?

Why are you willing to tolerate sexual perversion but not racism? In a world with no standards, what makes a malfunction of love higher on your standard than a malfunction of hate? Is an irrational lust and longing to mimic the mating act with a sex with which one cannot mate, at its root, any more or less disconnected to reality than an irrational fear and hatred of a Negro? How do we know race-hate is not genetic? Look at how scorned and put-upon racists are! Can we spare them no cheap Leftist pity? Why don't we simply call racism an alternate anti-ethnic orientation, similar to hetero-toleration, but different?

I know I will hear no rational argument to defend the Leftist position. They do not deal with rational answers. They have one and only one weapon in their arsenal: ad hominem. They will not answer, but they will sneer. I suppose a person who gave a tinker's damn about peer pressure or public opinion would fear to be sneered upon by these professional sneerers. For those professional sneerers ready to ignore my words and to condemn me as a "homophobe" let me just ask, why Oh why is it that no one has ever condemned me (or anyone of mine) as a "sunderophobe" -- even though I condemn divorce more severly than I condemn sodomy, or as an "adulterophobe" -- since I don't approve of cheating on your wife either; or as a "pseudophobe" -- since I don't approve of President Clinton.

Why is this one vice singled out for awe and reverence and glorification? Why is it that the lack of self control in sexual matters, where self control is paramount, is held to be immaculate and beyond reproach, whereas the lack of self-control when it comes to something trivial smoking tobacco is scorned?

In other news, Timothy Leary will be giving Sci-Fi an "F" grade for failing to portray drug abuse positively. Castro and Pol Pot will be giving Sci-Fi an "F" grade for their show BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which portrays the mass slaughter of innocent human beings in a negative light. Dean Martin will be giving Sci-Fi an "F" for failing to portray drunkenness as life-affirming. Don Juan will be giving Sci-Fi an "F" grade for failing to have a show that portrays serial adultery in a positive light -- but Don gives BATTLESTAR GALACTICA an "A" for sleeping with robots. Uncle Screwtape reminds me the any form of sex that is sterile and selfish wins the approval of the Lowerarchy.

UPDATE! A reader reminds me that on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA sex with robots is fertile after all: indeed, the whole point of the latter story arc was to produce a human-cylon hybrid. I do not know if this portrayal of the sex act was sufficiently selfish and sterile to please Don Juan -- we will see what grade he gives the Sci-Fi channel in the future. What the Lowerarchy wants is to make fornication seem normal and marriage seem abnormal.

COMMENT ADDED LATER: Flash Crowd! Troll Avalanche! The responses to this post are 800 and climbing at the time of this writing, and because I cannot answer each letter personally, I would like to give a general response. This falls into four categories:

(1) Irrelevant. To those of you who made irrelevant comments, allow me to note that a true but irrelevant comment has nothing to do with the topic, and therefore has no probative value.

Those whose arguments were irrelevant only because you are addressing a point you thought I made but did not (such as those of you who thought I was making a religious argument, or that I argued only sex in service of procreation was licit) it is possible that I was insufficiently clear. In such cases, the fault is mine, and I can make amends by setting out my position in order when time permits.

To those who made both irrelevant and emotional comments, I point out that this is counterproductive. A display of emotion on your part will not persuade me, or any honest man, to revisit his conclusions. Myself, I do not know anyone older than a small child who changes his mind merely because some loudmouth shouts loudly at him. In this case, you are not even in a position to shout at me, merely to type in all caps. I assume you did not reach your current conclusions because you were startled into them by a loud noise. Why do you assume any different for me?

(2) Relevant, but unanswered. To the one or two who actually addressed the topic, you have my thanks and my congratulations. You rose above your shabby intellectual surroundings. Unfortunately the sheer number of other responses has drowned out your measured responses, so if I have not answered, please assume I would like to and have not the time. You may return here at some later date, after the flash crowd has lost interest, and we can have a robust exchange of views.

Now, if I were Nancy Pelosi, I would accuse you all of being 'astroturf' and say that the insurance company hired you to come interrupt my town meeting here. I make no such accusation (though perhaps I could: I do note that a similar flash crowd showed up on my wife's low-traffic live journal to browbeat her for her political incorrectness. To the one or two readers who promised never to buy my books because I came to certain conclusions in logic you do not share, allow me to point out that most of my books were written before my conversion to Christianity, and at least one was written before my disillusionment with the Sexual Liberation Movement. So, for those of you who buy books for the sake of ideological purity rather than for entertainment value, I suggest you discover which is which, and plan your purchases accordingly.

Naturally, I regret the loss of business, but keep in mind that you came here to read my opinions, I did not smuggle those opinions out to you disguised as books, like, say, Philip Pullman does, nor did I intrude them in a forum where they were not asked-for. Someone in that forum tried to stir up a mob against me, put, unlike a real mob, I can simply lock out an electronic mob, so anyone coming here for anything other than a rational conversation is wasting his time, but not mine.

Considering most people's reactions was "who the hell is this guy?", I wonder if he just committed author suicide. My only regret is that I couldn't read how stupid the comments must have been.

Also, watch more tv, your future friends will dork around with you over ancient Saturday Morning Cartoons. Aside from that, change nothing. I like who I am now, and it's all because of how I was in the past.

Living in a Denim World

I will now speak about fashion. *the world gasps*

I went out today to buy a new pair of jeans. I've outgrown (width wise -.- ) my old set, so I wanted to start getting a bunch of new ones. I started to notice how prevalent jeans are in today's fashion. Unless they're wearing shorts, almost every guy I see in the mall are wearing jeans. I've tried out other things to wear.. khakis.. slacks.. cargo pants.. but I can't really see myself wearing anything else but jeans and to look fashionable doing so. I wonder if there's anything else I can try.

I'm jealous of girls sometimes because their fashion can be so varied and unique. For guys, it's jeans and a random combination of shirts.

Oh Christ.. 35 by count in #15.. Wow, I don't go to that many. That's only like.. 4 average a year.

2. Do you sleep at conventions?
Aside from a couple, almost always. I love staying up absurdly late, and it's nice to have a place to crash.

3. Do you eat?
Pretty regularly. I try to go out with friends for food outings :]

4. Are you shameless at conventions?
I do silly things, but nobody's tried to get me to do anything too shameless.

5. On average, how much money do you spend?
Including badge, hotel, transportation, and food.. I think around $300. I carpool like crazy and sometimes ghost cons and cram into rooms with a million other people to try to bring that number down.

6. Do you go to conventions to pick up people?
I go to cons to meet random people and stuff happens.. but not with the motive of picking people up.

7. Do you go to conventions to bang people?
No >.<

8. How much cellulite do you see when you go to conventions?
Eh? I don't really notice.

9. Do you cosplay?
Yar! I need some new cosplays though.

10. Does your cosplay show a lot of skin?
Quote showed off my arms.. I was horribly self conscious from just that.

11. Is your cosplay the epitome of badassery?
Not really :| They tend to be just thrown together. I do feel quite snazzy cosplaying Firo though.

SDCC only had something that I really wanted to wait in line for. AX had lines just to get in.

Ummm... lots... almost my entire friends list. In the 100s range?

Yes, but rarely do I feel entirely comfortable doing so. I like drinking with Hiku and Nori mostly.

I've always freak out a little whenever I see a Lucca cosplayer. I also have a soft spot for TF2 and Phoenix Wright cosplay.

Phishy did <3 In a cosplay that nobody recognized. A handful of people freaked out over my Cave Story group before Cave Story became popular.

All the time. It's the best part of cons.

Comic Con Lessons

This is a very spastic entry because I only remember bits and pieces from two weekends ago. Some interesting things I learned on my trip.

Do not bring knives to the airport.
Flying from San Jose to San Diego is heaven. I barely finished reading through SkyMall before we started landing. That's a lot better than the 9 hours of driving last year.
Skymall is still the greatest thing ever. A electric toothbrush with 4 rotating heads so you can brush the front and back of both rows of teeth AT THE SAME TIME? BRILLIANT. Combat hair loss using LASERS? GENIUS. Innovation at its finest.
So signs that say "Ground Transportation" and have a little picture of a bus takes you in the opposite direction of where the city bus stop is.
Converse shoes are good for being stylish.. and not very good for walking.
Granola bars are the ultimate portable backpack food. They're somewhat filling and resistant to crushing.
Carrying 20 pounds of camera equipment on my back means I'm less inclined to take my camera out and take any pictures.
Volunteering at Programming is the best kept secret ever. You get to watch all the panels that happen in the room you're working in. The first panel I saw was one for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. It was kinda interesting, then STAN LEE shows up :O
Stan Lee is the most energetic man I've ever met. He had more energy than everybody at Comic-con combined.
The next panel I saw was the Sanctuary panel.. with Amanda Tapping. She acts very silly all the time.
The panel after that was for Glee. It's a really cute musical tv show. I'll be following it in the future.
The next panel was after my shift was over, but it had a brawl of people trying to get in, so I decided to stick around. It was the f'n HEROES PANEL. I got to meet Tim Kring (Creator), Jack Coleman (HRG), Masi Oka (Hiro), Hayden Panettiere (Claire), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan), Zachary Quinto (Sylar), Milo Ventimiglia (Peter), and some of the new cast of Vol 5. The entire cast is full of dorks with HRG pitching chocolates to Sylar, but Nathan kept intercepting them. Zachary Quinto folded a paper airplane out of his name tag and threw it into the audience. Nathan tried doing the same, but it just flew down and crashed on the floor. Masi Oka is an inspiration to geeky people everywhere.
I also met Leonard Nimoy, Brent Spiner, John Barrowman, and Naoko Mori in the dealer's room.
Next year, I'm going to fight to grab swag. I barely got anything this year.
9 SWAG YEEEEESH.. Augmented Reality is soooo cool.
Hanging out with Tog and Phishy during the Watchmen panel was fun. It was listening to live director's commentary.. on the director's cut. Phish and I fanboygirled over parts of the movie ;_;
DOCTOR WHOOO PANEL! I can't wait for the last speciaaal!
I'm tempted to pack a scooter the next time I go to Comic-con, so I can get around easier.
Volunteering for line duty is fun. I get bubbly and happy and entertain everyone waiting in line.

It was sooo nice to see nerdcore and jub1lee for the first time in ages. It was also awesome to finally meet 1thilien12anger after years of being my Who fan comrade without actually being introduced in real life. Then, it was fun hanging out with chynoi, toggy, and I love phisinfinity to death for arranging the room stuff and dorking about with me.

This is.. looking pretty ugly. I think I need to drop out of Physics in the Fall. This is the bare minimum I can take, and I would be ditching my SE Capstone group in the Spring. I may just take the actual GWR test instead of taking a class. I would really need to focus next year too because I can't fail ANYTHING.
